Troy -- the wrapper of Western Civ.
We find the Troy story wrapped around almost every narrative in the Western tradition. And yet we know nothing of what's going on inside the heads of its major players. How easily did Agamemnon walk away from his daughter's dead body? What did Hecuba feel when her abandoned baby showed up with a bride.? Homer writes 24 books about the fighting in the 10th year of the war, but when we read those books, we come away feeling that war is a waste, although the poet never says so overtly.
If we peel away the wrappings of the Troy story, what do we find inside? If we peel the Troy story away from other narratives, what is left?
